Il patrimonio storico musicale nel Conservatorio di musica "A. Boito" di Parma: la multimedialità dell'oggetto reale

Documentation in music implies a great variety of physical objects: music manuscripts, printed music, books and periodicals on music, sound recordings and audiovisuals - analogic and digital - musical instruments and other objects related to a music career, works of visual arts with subject music. The Conservatorio di musica 'A. Boito' XIX century heritage was donated by musicians who studied or thought there. It is now preserved in two libraries: the Sezione musicale della Biblioteca Palatina and the Museo, archivio storico e mediateca del Conservatorio. The variety of documents is wide and it is related to different kind of music careers: singer, instrument player, composer. Task of the music library inside the Conservatory is to connect the digital revolution to the mission of the conservatory, i.e. the education of musicians, bringing in one preservation, digitization, teaching and research. The case of the Conservatorio di musica in Parma is compared to other music libraries in the city and to two libraries in Paris: the Médiathèque H. Berlioz and the Bibliothèque publique d'information of the Centre Pompidou
